Why Cape Cod

The serenity and natural beauty of the Cape provides a context for shedding daily stressors and tapping into creative processes.

On the lower Cape, the expansive National Seashore offers a wildness that can ignite you at your core. Wooded bike paths and hiking trails evoke a stillness that supports clarity of thought.

The town boasts two excellent coffee shops and several well-rated restaurants offering a variety of cuisines from high-quality seafood to American fare, Mexican, Thai, Italian and International choices. And, of course, its own pizzeria.

A locally-owned grocery store has all you need, carrying basics and gourmet foods, local produce, wine and a popular deli. The natural foods store has an impressive selection of organic products and bulk supplies.

Numerous locally owned shops and galleries provide unique selections of art, jewelry, clothing and housewares, much of it made by local artists and designers. In the heart of town, rotating artisans display their creations in the delightful Artist Cottages.

Sea Howl, the independent bookstore in town, has a well-curated selection to keep you reading.

Several venues in town host live music, including Hog Island, a local brewery, and The Barley Neck, a restaurant and bar in East Orleans. There is a beer garden— Town Cove Tap House—situated next to the bike path. Checkpoint East is a locally owned recording studio that has served nationally known musicians and authors.

Bikes can be rented in town at Orleans Cycle on the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which extends for miles of beautiful scenery in either direction.

In Brewster, next door, the bike path leads to Nickerson State Park, a 1,900-acre facility with several ponds and miles of hiking trails.

For water adventures, Goose Hummock offers rentals with a put-in on Town Cove.

Orleans is proud to have its own bowling alley (with surprisingly good food) and one of the best miniature golf courses on the Cape!

There is also a well-equipped gym in town that has drop-in options.
